South West Green Party

SW Greens head SE for Conference

02 September 2009

Green Party members from across the South West are travelling to Brighton for the Party's national conference this weekend.

The conference is being held in Brighton this year to underline the strength of party leader Caroline Lucas MEP's bid to win a Westminster seat in Brighton and Hove. Conference will look ahead to the next General Election, and Caroline Lucas's opening speech will include a swingeing attack on both the government and the banks over the ongoing financial crisis.

Our local members go to Conference fresh from a strong vote for the party in the South West in the recent local and European elections. These elections saw the party gain its first two county councillors in the region – in Devon and in Gloucestershire – and come within 12,000 votes of gaining its first Green MEP for the South West.

Caroline Lucas's speech is scheduled to be broadcast on the BBC Parliament channel (Freeview channel 81) on Saturday 5 September, 2130-2200.
