Greens against the cuts
North Somerset Council plans £18 million in cuts, affecting the elderly, the disabled, libraries, youth clubs, children's centres, environmental services and voluntary organisations. It's an anxious time for so many. Councillor Tom Leimdorfer, at the moment our only Green Party councillor, has spoken out in Council against the cuts: he says they are too severe, and has gone on to propose a workable alternative plan which would save some essential services. While the amendment had support from ten other councillors and the trade unions, all Conservatives voted to support the full cuts, which represent 13% of the net Council budget in one year.
Last year, Cllr Leimdorfer led the opposition to proposed library closures and worked with his local Parish Council and the community to save Congresbury library.
North Somerset Greens are sending out a message to residents that Green Party councillors are pledged to listen to local concerns, they are not dictated to by large party blocks, and they are ready to work with the local community for a fairer and more sustainable future. The elections on May 5th are a chance to VOTE GREEN and make a difference.
Green Party members and supporters will be working harder than ever over the coming two months to get the Green message across to the residents of North Somerset.
