Take the ‘green’ train: SW Euro candidates attend first ever Green European Summer University
Published: 28 Aug 2008
South West Green Party lead candidates for the 2009 European Elections, Cllr Ricky Knight and Cllr Roger Creagh-Osborne, are this week travelling to the German city of Frankfurt-an-der-Oder, on the border with Poland, for a three day conference organised by the Green Group of the European Parliament.
The conference features three days of meetings, lectures, seminars and cultural events. Ricky Knight is looking forward to a hectic schedule:
"Judging by the itinerary, we'll just about be able to manage some sleep. The programme promises to be very interesting - challenging, informative and energising. We have over 50 workshops to choose from and there are lectures from some of Europe's leading green thinkers". Green MEP Jean Lambert, whom Ricky hopes to be joining in Brussels next year, will be chairing one of the sessions.
The candidates are travelling all the way from Devon by train, changing from the Eurostar at Brussels to take the rest of the journey on the night train. Shortly after their return they’ll be joining other UK Greens at the national Green Party Autumn Conference in London, from 5th-8th September.
