East Devon Green Party says: Less plastic for Christmas, please!

28 November 2017

Look out for Green Party members wrapped in plastic packaging on the streets of Sidmouth on this coming Saturday (2nd December).  Colin Boyd of the local Green Party will be dressed in bubblewrap to draw attention to the excessive use of plastic packaging.  As government consults on a plastics tax, Greens will be highlighting the real cost of plastics, which are dissolved as fibres and particles in tap water, bottled water, and the deepest marine trenches.

Green MEP Molly Scott Cato has pointed out that one Plymouth University study found 10% of sand from a beach was in fact tiny plastic particles.  She said: “We must tackle this scourge because it is having a devastating impact on marine environment food chains.  Ultimately, a healthy coastal and marine environment is essential for the health and wellbeing of us all.”
